Autumn Hill
Autumn Hill : The leaves are getting more 'gingery' now ...this is a tree on a little hill ( -ock? ) just before entering the woods...the sun hit it as we came up to it...everything became very bright with the dark woods behind made a memorable image. But now to try and get that image on to canvas….

Great Tit
Tweet of the Day: Great tit : Often see these little wonders hanging from our feeders enjoying our "fast food".... We have a nest box by our kitchen window and in all the years we have had it hanging there only once has it been used….and that was by great tits.....they were very nervous of us as we looked at each other throughout the kitchen window..as soon as the babies fledged..they all left...at avery high speed.

Jug
Jug: This is a painting from my student class...we all painted this jug for the first hour...before going on to their personal project...a good exercise to get them painting from life ...it's not easy though...a lot of resistance but necessary if you want to make progress...after telling my class to plan your painting with a rough first and where you are going to place it on the page...my sample shows no handle…I had placed it to much in the middle and couldn't get it in...ho hum a teachers life is not always a happy one.......

Autumn River
Autumn River: The leafs on our trees are really starting to change from that awful acidly green of Summer to a nice redder green of Autumn and getting there gradually … excellent to see everyday getting a little more redder...down by the river today the greens are changing to a beautiful yellow with a few touches of orange...what bodes for tomorrow?

Walking with Fred
Wave of the Day : Walking with Fred : The best time when you are near a beach is the evening with the long shadows and the sun sinking in the sea ( It does doesn't it? ) there is a theory that there is a green light appears just as the sun sinks beyond the horizon ....we spent a lot of time trying to photograph this...but this painting is of a really great sky...very like a favourite painter of both my son and I…Fred Cuming...we always think of him when we see a sky like this one....cheers Fred and thanks for all the paintings.

Gull Island
Wave of the Day : Gull Island : This little island is situated at the mouth of Trebarwith Strand in Cornwall England...where we have just been on holiday...as you can see very windy with plenty of spray...quite hard for the surfers to get beyond the braking waves ...Gull Island always looked good whatever the weather... majestically standing off shore...

Sun Flower
Sunflower : Now the holidays are over, it is back to work and back to my pupils..first painting of the winter season…still life of a sunflower...and not a real one!..a supermarket purchase..do something simple to begin with and then get down to some real painting later...unfortunately not everyone was feeling the same and we has a few tantrums and the throwing of paint and the tearing of paper was heard...ho hum...artist bloc was rampant ...

Clouds and the Sea
Clouds and the Sea : Another holiday painting...the waves today were very impressive and the surfers made the most of it.The wind was very gusty and as well as the beauty of the crashing waves the was the extra pleasure of seeing the wind take off the tops of the waves as they started to fall and added to that, as if that wasn't enough, were the clouds seeming to be copying the waves...just a wonderful sight...I found myself just looking and enjoying the experience so much …I forgot I was out there to paint this......difficult

Surprise
Meow of the Day: Surprise : Met this one in a passage way ...we were not sure who had the right of way....me or her? she was surprised as was I …but somehow her look of surprise changed to that look animals give you when confronted. like very young children look at adults...staring with no expression .......scary

Scotty
Bark of the Day : Scotty : Dogs are really difficult to paint....I tried to paint this one from 'real life'
instead of using a photograph…big mistake ...if I am painting a cat..you can rely on them not moving much, particularly after a meal...when cats like to take a nap...where as dogs just want to go for another walk ....so this painting is painted from the memory of the dog that was sat in front of me some minutes ago........ho hum.....

Proper Cow
Moo of the Day : Proper Cow : Thought I'd just try to paint a proper cow…as I always seem to painting the same cow type with long faces...it was a lot of fun to see the differences but I see that the stare is still the same.... scary...

Chapeaux
Moo of the Day : Chapeaux : More of my cows with a hat on plus flowers and a bell...I don't know how I arrived at this image with it's long face not like a real cow....I must try
painting a real one one day..but I like the long look of this one…helps express that long expressionless face they have when they are trying to our stare you over a field hedge...
